Through the Years


  • Testing Center moved from Turner Student Services building to a larger leased off-campus facility with a dedicated special accommodations room for the Prometric lab in Illini Plaza.
  • Expanded from two to three labs and the number of testing stations grew from 15 to 25.
  • The Center now provides proctoring services for fire fighter and international veterinary certification exams.


  • A software platform for the Proctor Pool, which streamlined the process for both faculty requesting services and student proctor assignments, was implemented.


  • Documentation that the Testing Center consistently serves primarily UIUC students (50% in 2012 to 70% in 2016) began.
  • The Center serves all students in the educational pipeline – high school students with the SAT & ACT, college students with the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, DAT, LSAT, & MPRE, and alumni with professional certification exams for a multitude of careers.


  • Streamlined processes and began computerization of the Proctor Pool processes.
  • Administration of diagnostic psychological testing for the Counseling Center and McKinley Health Center was discontinued.


  • Proctoring Services for Individuals was expanded to include employer exams such as Rolls Royce and Proctor & Gamble.


  • Testing Center became a Prometric & Pearson VUE testing sites and began internet-based testing for graduate school entrance and professional certification exams.
  • Collaboration with two large testing companies allows the Center to provide professional certification exams such as CPA, medical boards, financial planning, teaching, and many others to alumni and other professionals in the region.


  • With the proliferation of distance education courses, Proctoring Services for Individuals was expanded to include many institutions within the United States and in other countries.


  • Proctoring Services for Individuals for both students and members of the public was added to the Testing Center portfolio.
  • Language proficiency exams for the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences was discontinued with the exception of languages not taught at UIUC.


  • Testing Office became the Testing Center.
  • The Center became a Standardize Testing Network (STN) site administering computer-based GRE exams.
  • The reporting line moved from the Counseling Center to the Office of the Dean of Students.
  • The Center moved from McKinley Health Center to the Turner Student Services building.
  • The proliferation of computer-based and internet-based exams prompted the exploration of collaborating with large testing companies.


  • Testing Office moved from the Turner Student Services building to McKinley Health Center.
  • In collaboration with the Office of the Provost Proctor Pool services for UIUC faculty began.


  • Testing Office was established in the Counseling Center to provide diagnostic, language proficiency, and national college entrance exams.
